Portable appliance testing and electrical test and tag.

On-site test and tag for workplaces in Frankston, Carrum Downs, the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne’s south-east, with tags, digital results and recorded retest dates.

What the visit covers

What is test and tag?

Test and tag combines a visual inspection with electrical safety testing of portable equipment. It is also called portable appliance testing, or PAT testing. DSS tags the recorded result and supplies a digital asset register with results and retest dates for the equipment in your booking.

Visual inspection and electrical test

Standard portable electrical items are inspected and tested on site against the agreed scope.

Tags for the recorded result

The result is tagged on site so tested equipment can be identified clearly.

Digital records and retest dates

DSS supplies an organised asset register, recorded results and retest dates for the next round.

Equipment and workplaces

Which items do our appliance tagging services cover?

Our electrical appliance testing and tagging services cover standard portable equipment, including plug-in equipment, leads, power boards and chargers within the agreed scope. DSS works with offices, facilities, retail and hospitality sites, construction and trade workplaces, and other businesses that need on-site testing with useful records.

Specialist equipment, difficult access, travel outside the core service area and after-hours work are assessed separately. A written quote confirms those details before you book.

Questions before booking

Electrical test and tag FAQs

How should I prepare for an on-site test and tag visit?

Estimate the number of plug-in items, leads, power boards and chargers, and note where they are used. Tell DSS about equipment that cannot be switched off during normal operations, restricted access and any specialist items. Agree access and timing before the visit so the quote reflects your workplace.

Does a test tag replace checks for damage before use?

No. Equipment can be damaged between tests. WorkSafe Victoria advises checking leads and equipment for visible damage before use and keeping faulty or damaged equipment out of service. See the electrical safety guidance linked below.

How often should equipment be inspected and tested?

There is no single interval for every workplace. WorkSafe Victoria explains that the nature and frequency of inspection and testing depends on the equipment, operating environment and how it is used. DSS records retest dates for the agreed equipment scope. Read the WorkSafe Victoria electrical safety guidance (opens in a new tab). That guidance covers general workplaces; construction workplaces have separate requirements and guidance.

What does the appliance test report include?

The current service includes a digital asset register, clear results and recorded retest dates. See the dedicated reports and retest tracking guide.

Can the service be quoted before booking?

Yes. DSS confirms the scope and price in writing after reviewing the site, approximate item count, equipment mix, access and preferred timing. You can also use the indicative pricing calculator before requesting the quote.

Ready for a written test and tag quote?

Include your site suburb, approximate item count, equipment mix and preferred timing so DSS can confirm the scope.
